1. Install a file manager

By default, Android TV does not include any file manager, so install one. The Google Play offers at least 3, we opted for the classic ES Explorer. Navigation is not easy on Android TV, but all buttons are accessible from a remote control. There is also AnExplorer, more convenient but with fewer functions.

2. Enable the installation of third-party apps

By default, for security reasons, Android TV can not install third-party Android apps (.APK)
So you have to go to:
Settings> Security and Restrictions, to remove the prohibition. In Unknown Sources, select Enabled.

Recover a APK

You can download .APK on the publishers’ official website, sometimes it is possible to download them directly from the Play Store. The best method has been described on the forum FrAndroid, just have a computer available.

Start the installation of .APK

To recover your .APK, there are several ways to proceed. The first is to connect a USB key, or a microSD card to your Android TV device. We preferred to go through a “Cloud” function of ES Explorer, with Google Drive. It’s easier to transfer files once the connection is active.

Uninstall an application on Android TV

To uninstall an application, it’s quite simple: stay on the icon of the application on the desktop of your Android TV, it will then be possible to move the app to the trash.

The other method is to go to the Settings, and select the application in question in Applications.
